2024 BCL Charity Drive – Steps Clubfoot Care

Give the Gift of Mobility:

Help Children Walk Without Limits

Every year, the BCL boys come together to make a difference in the community. What started as a festive gathering has evolved into an annual tradition of giving back. In previous years, we’ve championed causes like testicular cancer awareness and raised over R43,000 in food and supplies for the SPCA.

This year, we’re setting our sights even higher with a cause that helps children take their first steps towards a better future.

Our 2024 Cause: Steps Clubfoot Care

In South Africa, every year approximately 2,000 babies are born with clubfoot – a condition where an infant’s foot is turned inward, sometimes so severely that the bottom of the foot faces sideways or upward. Without treatment, these children face lifelong disability. But there’s hope, and you can help make a difference.

In 2003, Karen’s world changed when her son was born with clubfoot. Her journey led her to Dr. Ponseti in Iowa, USA, whose non-surgical method transformed her son’s life. In just 16 days and three casts, her baby’s feet were completely straight.

This experience sparked a mission. Today, Steps Clubfoot Care, the organization Karen founded, has:

  • Supported over 20,000 children
  • Trained 2,000+ health professionals
  • Established 41 specialist clinics nationwide
  • Distributed 21,000 clubfoot braces

Our 2024 Goal: Transform 15 Lives

We’ve set an ambitious target to raise R37,500 by mid-December. This amount would fund the complete four-year treatment journey for 10 children born with clubfoot, giving them the chance to walk, run, and play just like their peers. Every contribution brings us closer to this goal – whether it’s enough to fund a single brace or a full treatment program, your support matters.

Your Impact

Every donation transforms a child’s life. Here’s how your contribution helps:

  • R2,500 supports a child’s complete four-year treatment journey
  • R1,500 provides a clubfoot brace for a rural clinic patient

Remember: Every contribution, regardless of size, brings us closer to helping another child walk, run, and play without limitations.

About BCL - Celebrating 17 Years

In the heart of 2008, a remarkable tradition was born among a close-knit group of friends. It was a time when life was bustling with university lectures, late-night study sessions, and youthful exuberance. The idea of sitting down for a civilised Christmas lunch seemed far from the norm, but it was precisely this unconventional spirit that gave birth to what we know today as “Boys Christmas Lunch” or BCL.

Founded by a group of friends with a shared desire for camaraderie and an unwavering bond, BCL started as a humble Christmas gathering. The name “Boys Christmas Lunch” reflects the simplicity and spontaneity of those early days. Little did they know that this modest gathering would grow into a cherished tradition.

As the years passed, the group continued to expand, both in numbers and in the depth of their friendships. What began with just six members has now blossomed into a close-knit brotherhood of 22 friends, each with their unique stories and memories. In 2023, BCL proudly celebrates its 16th consecutive year, a testament to the enduring strength of their connections.

BCL isn’t just a lunch or a gathering; it’s a reminder of why these friends became brothers. It’s about laughter that never fades, stories that continue to be shared, and the simple joy of being together for one weekend each year. BCL is a living testament to their enduring bond, an annual tradition that reaffirms the profound friendship they share. No matter where life takes them, the spirit of BCL stands as a reminder that they will always have each other’s backs, for as long as they live.

As they embark on their 17th year of celebration, BCL stands tall, a beacon of friendship, and a testament to the enduring power of camaraderie. Here’s to many more years of laughter, stories, and unwavering friendship!
