Every year, the Boys Christmas Lunch (BCL) brings together a group of mates for a good time, a few laughs, and most importantly, a shared purpose: to give back. What started as a casual Christmas get-together has grown into a meaningful annual tradition that makes a real difference in the community.

In 2024, our chosen charity was Steps Clubfoot Care – an incredible South African non-profit dedicated to helping children born with clubfoot walk, run, and live full, active lives. Their mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every child born with clubfoot has access to the Ponseti Method, a non-surgical treatment that corrects the condition permanently and affordably.

We, as the BCL Boys, and everyone who donated, are proud to have played our small part, and changed the lives of several children. Who knows, these kids may grow up to achieve great things with the help of the treatment they have received early on in their lives. – Shaun James

When we set our fundraising goal at R37,500, we knew it was ambitious – but once again, the generosity of our friends, families, and supporters blew us away. By the end of the drive, we had raised an incredible R52,700, our biggest total to date.

Shaun James and Cameron Billing represented BCL when handing over the cheque to Karen and her team. This amount will directly support Steps’ treatment programs and training for local healthcare providers, ensuring that more children across South Africa receive the care they need to take their first confident steps – quite literally.

Cameron Billing had this to say:

Visiting one of the Steps clinics was incredibly heartwarming. There is a great deal of love and care that goes into treating the children, who would otherwise have no access to the care they need. From putting on casts, to fitting braces and doing physio work, the Steps staff, as well as the doctors working at the clinic, are absolutely committed to making a difference.

BCL has always been about more than just fundraising. It’s about friendship, community, and proving that giving back doesn’t have to be formal or complicated. Over good food and cold drinks, a group of guys with big hearts came together once again to make a meaningful impact.

We’re incredibly proud of what we achieved this year – and even more grateful for every person who donated, spread the word, or showed up to support. Whether you joined the lunch, contributed online, or simply cheered us on, you helped make 2024 a year to remember.

Here’s to another record-breaking year, and to continuing this tradition of laughter, generosity, and doing good – one Christmas lunch at a time.
